The finish line must've looked really sweet before that other racer fell out of the sky and landed directly on him.

HE DID THAT BECAUSE HE WANTED A NEW BIKE...AND A NEW PELVIS...AND A NEW FEMUR...AND A NEW SPINE.
After the footage of the Asians in the stands watching the race you'll see a shot of the guy on the white bike come into the straight. Just behind him you'll briefly notice an orange bike. So as the guy on the white bike starts to think the race is his Mr orange bike is full throttle and obviously loses control....wham bam thank you Mr Miagi. Anyone for sushi?
