Bear in mind that the United States government turns a blind eye to this sort of thing. The sort of behavior the Chinese exhibit in Tibet (religious repression, etc.) is the sort of thing this country is supposed to oppose vehemently and is often used as justification for invasion. But the United States remains silent.

Every country remains silent when it comes to China. The United States for the past 50 years has spent more $$ on resources for other other countries in need then the REST OF THE WORLD COMBINED!!!!! Get your facts straight. They have also stepped up more then any other country and have spent more $$$ (65% of total assistance) on AIDS and in African countries then anyone. My question is...where is the rest of the world? The rest of the world needs our money to help these countries out, but then resents us for it. The American people are the most generous with their $$ in the world. Again, more private American funds were raised for international charities then the REST OF THE WORLD COMBINED!!! This is apart from government assistance.

Kind of odd how the The People's Republic of China, with a flourishing economy right now doesn't have the resources to just detain these people and deport them. I guess shooting them across the mountain and making up some bullshit was less walking. America would never get away with that on either of our borders. We'd get so much heat from everyone. Christ.

Shame on China for this slaughtering and imprisonment of peaceful and unarmed pilgrims. China is supposedly becoming more modern and open to commercialism. More and more Western countries are interested in conducting trade with China, standing to make billions of dollars in revenue, importing and exporting. No one wants to tweak the nose of a giant money machine. Why should they care about a political underdog which has no money and no valuable resources such as oil? China may very well become the most powerful nation in the world but that doesn't mean that it will become a benefactor and tolerant toward it's neighbors.
