Great sound track ...."Ya ya yaya ya ...dead bodies everywhere....."....assho le tearing tune there and one of my old favourites. Brings back memories when I had more chicks to root than dayz in the week.
*leaves room do dig up some old tunes, suicidal tendencies, korn, Alice in chains, sepultura and dead kennedys*

The film footage wasn't bad either.

That was definitely one of the best comps yet, Scott. Excellent. icon_beer.gif

What made me sad though was the spot where still pics were shown of some of the soldiers/Marines. They look so young. It's heartbreaking to think that so many of them aren't going to come home. icon_cry.gif

God Speed them safely home soon.

First and foremost, I apologize to those of you that read what I write, I know it's long and it seems like I over-analyze everything, but I only want it known that I do this because I'm a firm-believer in the free-form spread of ideas and in-depth discussions.

Shroomy: I realize you're a troll and that most of what you say is meant to incite anger and perhaps get your point across in the simplest form possible: Make conjectures and then offer no evidence afterwards.

Propaganda only works if the majority believes it. Hitler, Chavez, Castro, Stalin - all of these men were guilty of propaganda because the majority of their respective citizens believe(d) what comes out of their mouth or from their government controlled media.

We live in a country where the separation of the Press and the Government is so well-defined, that the idea of a Big Brother system or propaganda isn't even feasible. I've heard this type of thing from lots of radical leftists, yet they offer no support in lieu of these claims.

The claim of propaganda could be made if there was over-whelming support for the war in Iraq, with very little evidence supporting the fight over there.

However, the argument could be made, that since most of the country seems to be in agreement with the New York Times and leftist news organizations like MSNBC - that the real propagandists here are the media moguls that control what you watch, what you see, and what is reported. Now, I present this to you as a theory because there isn't much evidence to support it.

Based solely on the definition, however, it could be argued that there is a higher probability the media is more influential and exerts higher levels of anti-war propaganda than our conservative administration exerts the counter (pro-war).

Me personally, I think war is a bad thing, under any circumstance. The deaths of thousands of people sucks, yes. But sometimes, it's a necessary evil - and even when we don't agree with it, we can't lose sight of reality. The lack of American support for Iraq hurts not only those here in the States, but those overseas giving their lives in defense of people who, some of which, will work with the enemy because the idea of change is too radical.

I believe that because of this country's free-thought, the idea of Big Brother will be a shot in the dark so long as we have 24 hour, privately owned news organizations. They have their own agendas, just like our government, just like you do, and just like the rest of this country. That's not a bad thing, it's human nature - and it's better you realize that now and get this ridiculous thought out of your head.

Taken directly from the factoids:

"Due to the nature of the survey's methodology based on individual perceptions, there are often wide contrasts in a country's ranking from year to year."

I can't really see how this proves anything, if it doesn't indeed prove my point for me.

Notice how the stipulations on these percentages (that were obviously taken out of a small control group) dictate that it varies based on who they ask, because the methodology is based entirely on the perceptions of the journalists they asked.

I never said that the United States' Government withholds information about what we do overseas. I also never said that the Bush administration, specifically, hasn't done this. I've only stipulated that in order for propaganda to work - you have to maintain a hold on the majority of what the public listens to, watches, and receives.

Based on the criteria you've given me, I fail to see how this constitutes even a majority of journalists and press releases being compromised. Of course certain things can't be disclosed to the public. Military movements, supply lines, and the like. Moreover, we're one of the only countries in the world that allows journalists - no matter their political affiliations - to go with our troops into the battlefield.

Smart governments don't release all information to the public - because leftist analysts and reporters operating off of their own agenda can turn a story around anyway they want. On top of which, even the smallest image could compromise the security of our forces in Iraq, or those here at home.

What other countries are around the numeric value granted to us from this organization?

Japan, Israel, Australia?

Moreover, let me show you something.

See where Russia, Cuba, and Venezuela are?

They are way below us, and for good reason - Russia is still rebuilding from their Soviet way of life (when it comes to the press). Cuba and Venezuela are far at the bottom because of their propagandized leadership.

You consider yourself distinguished because of a report from an organization that (oh, by the way, gets most of its funding from Western companies, including the United States) you've found is suitable enough to uphold your claim?

What accomplishments in human rights has the Netherlands ever achieved? Moreover, what monumental difference have they ever made in society as a whole? They've legalized the sale and use of drugs. They really hold the standard for human rights everywhere.

I'm not discounting your country, merely stating that we have a lot more people, and therefore, a lot more issues to contend with than a country that is roughly the size of one of our states.

@ Bamont:

That was an informative, well thought out post. It's good that there are people out there who can express their ideas without demeaning those who don't agree with them.

I agree with you for the most part. I'll go a step further and say it's the media that are the propaganda pushers in the U.S. That is the reason most people are against the war! We get American death tolls every flippin' day. We get stories about how the Iraqi people hate us (along with the rest of the world). We get stories about how poor Joe Blow was gravely injured during an insurgent attack and both of his legs had to amputated (nevermind that it's a VOLUNTEER military) I'm not saying Joe isn't a hero, I'm saying that is the kind of crap the media feeds us. They give the implication that old Joe HAD to go to war for his country. And when it's all said and done, the average American has to base his conclusions on erroneus, narrow-minded information.

I love information, and I love that most people believe that information should be free, but dammit I hate the press. I know that's like saying "I love the beach, but I hate sand" but I stand by it.

Bamont [ban] | Jan 22 07 : 11:47am

 Vote upDelete comment

gwish: What some people also don't realize is that lots of the information we get from all news organizations is wrong and apologized for on some obscure part of their web page or in their newspaper. A good portion of what we read is false or misinformation - but people love to take what they believe, see something that even remotely represents it, and run with it for weeks and months without doing their own research.

I at least give shroomy props for having to find Wikipedia, because while it's pales in comparison to my standards for research, it's a lot more than what other people reply with. I may not agree with what he says, but I believe in his right to say it.

However, as I always stipulate, if you're going to debate with someone - come armed with something more than a website and an opinion. You need facts and the ability to convey the information you've absorbed.

Hold up there Bamont:

Don't even get me started on the hypocrisy of "legal" and "illegal" drugs.
Or perhaps it would be better to say "taxed" and "untaxed" drugs.

Bamont [ban] | Jan 22 07 : 11:56am

 Vote upDelete comment

Legalizing drugs is an entirely different discussion.

Research has never shown that there is an inherent plus to doing illegal narcotics.

Not any conclusive research, anyway.

Marijuana doesn't cure any ailments, neither does ecstasy, or cocaine, or crack, or crystal meth, or PCP, or LSD - or any number of illegal drugs.

If we found that Marijuana cured cancer, we'd have it legalized in less than a day and in affordable pockets of the United States for sale.

The point is that they don't serve any purpose other than recreational use, and the occasional glaucoma patient for relief.

Now, I'm not advocating that all medicine on the market serves a valuable purpose, because it doesn't - but that's not my battle to fight.

I believe in choosing battles based on principle as opposed to ones that split party-lines.

gwish23 [ban] | Jan 22 07 : 12:50pm

Give me a break dude, we were talking about how the media influences are way of thinking so we are definitely in the same area of discussion here. Bamont quote:

"The point is that they don't serve any purpose other than recreational use, and the occasional glaucoma patient for relief.

Now, I'm not advocating that all medicine on the market serves a valuable purpose, because it doesn't - but that's not my battle to fight."

So your point is they don't serve any purpose......but in the same breath you admit there are substances that are legal that also serve no purpose.....so your point is......what exactly? I think what you're trying to say here is that you agree with the perception that the "illegal" drug issue is hypocritical BS.

Bamont [ban] | Jan 22 07 : 1:13pm

 Vote upDelete comment

My point is that they are already processed under law as being illegal, and since none of them serve any kind of medicinal purpose (aside from therapeutic) - there is no point in adding more legislation just to approve them so that pot heads are no longer doing anything illegal.

There are also drugs that are out on the market today that don't serve much of a purpose, or mimic what other drugs do. Those drugs don't last long, and 90% of the time don't have an addiction clause attached either.

I try as hard as I can not to generalize, but sometimes it does happen.

Now, as per, the reason why I brought up drug use in the first place is because of the Netherlands policy on it. It's ironic when someone compares their country to my own, almost with a paradigm of supremacy, when his country advocates the use of illegal narcotics for recreational purposes. There's a reason why we haven't legalized drugs here in America - and the biggest myth is because of the inability to tax them. Wrong, if we can tax alcohol and tobacco, we can tax marijuana and other drugs. The real issue is that these drugs don't serve any purpose in society, and harm a hell of a lot more than they help.

I could cite hundreds and hundreds of case studies where, even Marijuana, has shown to have absolutely NO effect on sick patients - even therapeutic effects. The studies out there that have the highest results in favor of marijuana use - have typically been with people who used it before they got sick. On a regular basis.

So, basically, I don't mind listening to Shroomy, even with his condescending and superior attitude - because I live in one of the greatest countries in the world. We have our problems, we have our issues, but there's a reason why people don't say, "You know, I think I'm going to move to the Netherlands to make a better life for my family."

What they say is, "I'm going to move to America, and if I work hard enough, I can prosper and give my children something more."

Marijuana, used as a drug (i.e. smoked or eaten) serves no purpose. You're right about hemp usage, and it's strange about it's ties to Marijuana and how the United States relates to it.

And, I do agree that alcohol is (if consumed for recreational purposes) just as dangerous as a mind-altering substance as cocaine. I don't drink, nor do I support people that do. I believe the second highest cause of death in this country is alcohol-related driving. I could be wrong, but I'm quite certain it's high up there. It creates dependency and can when people don't know their limits, they put others in danger. It is the factual representation of what happens when you legalize a dangerous drug. Now, if I know that, why would I want drugs legalized?

The reason why there aren't studies on what Marijuana usage does to people's behavior on the road is because it's very, very hard to detect when you're pulled over. Blood and hair testing can show it, but those results come in weeks later. It's not like it is with alcohol, where the tests are confirmed the moment you take a sobriety test.

I'm curious, shroomy - do you read what you post before you use your copy and paste functions? This is the second time you've posted something to me where substitutes have been proven in your so-called evidence that go farther to prove my point.

Read what you copied again and get back to me.

We are Europeans gone wrong? Demographics, time.

Since you've laid down the standard for being everything we know, why doesn't the Netherlands even compare in this list?

http://en.wikipedia.org/w iki/Household_inc...e_Uni ted_States

Australia, which you also mentioned, is above you as well (and us).

I applaud the government for their role in allowing same-sex marriages, but we've given the world vehicles, mass industrialization, women's suffrage - hell, most of Europe would be speaking German if it weren't for our involvement in the second World War.

I sincerely doubt you could ever make any of those kinds of claims, and I'm only skimming the surface - if you let me go on, believe me, I will.

Next time you want to compare internet sch long size, be sure you're ready to compete. It's apparent that you didn't take full advantage of your education system.

But, I would like to add this.
I smoke marijuana recreationally, but I've noticed that it's effects do help me with anxiety and stress issues. I take medication for moderate clinical depression/ anxiety and I have been dealing with both for about 8 years. Bamont what you obviously do not realize is that certain chemicals act differently with different people because everyone's brain chemistry is different. I want it for the record that I was not talking about marijuana when I brought up the drug hypocrisy thing. Otherwise I'll take green cat's advice.

Bamont [ban] | Jan 22 07 : 3:23pm

 Vote upDelete comment

I back-packed through Europe last year. France, Italy, England, Germany - believe me, the universal language in Europe is NOT German. Now, based on online statistics, German is widely used, but French is not that far behind. Lots of the EU speaks English(because of England and tourism), and German is an easy fix since many of the words are very similiar (not in type, but in sound and comprehension). I could logically see why you came to that conclusion - but what I was alluding to was the fact that United States intervention had a lot to do with the reclaiming of Europe from Hitler.

Now, you're absolutely right about Marijuana and it's therapeutic affects. I never said they didn't exist, only that no conclusive study has ever shown that they did in even a majority of patients who used it - and those where it did were prior (regular) users.

I have friends who smoke pot, and it seems to do wonders for them. While I was still in high school - I opted to try it a few times. It never had much of an effect for me, but I don't deny that it does for others, only that making it legal would be a nightmare and that it serves no purpose in society. There are hundreds of different, and legal, means to reach that euphoric point of relaxation. Pot happens to be how you do it - I have no problem with that, so long as you're ready to accept the consequences of it being illegal.

And Shroomy - you're also correct. Marijuana doesn't have any dose that will kill you, but I'm dealing with a situation right now with a few classmates who switched from pot to Xanax (sp?) - and who knows what they'll go for next. I've seen it before, one high leads you to another, and while many pot heads are content just smoking weed every now and then, some people don't know the limits - and this drug opens them up to a world of people and situations that dictate harder drugs and jail time.

Dear Lucan Kane,
There is nothing worse in the world than a MODERN german talking about war, or fighting. The Modern german has been castrated. The country can only produce men who are techno DJs or hippie faggots. I live in Berlin, and I met a "veteran" of the Bundeswehr who served in Afghanistan. What a joke. All this asshole ever talked about was how the US was fucking everything up, we're so dumb, we don't understand the local culture etc. etc. Bush is an idiot. AND THEN 3 weeks later it turns out that the big bad Bundeswehr (yeah right) is sitting in their bases up north, opening schools, DRINKING BEER, and playing with Afghan skulls (AND TAKING PICTURES!) while its the US, Canadians, Dutch, etc. doing the fighting in the south. Look at the casualty list. Germans only die in traffic accidents. or hitting a dud bomb with a hammer like in 2002 (and then take 2 Danes with them!)
so you can take your stupid subjective comments somewhere else buddy. My father served in the Bundeswehr in 1960 and he left it after 1 1/2 years in disgust. Its a make-believe army filled with make believe soliders. I respect French soldiers more than German ones. And if Americans had more contact with the two, they would also respect the French more too.
Tschuessi!

This video is a great compilation showing the sacrifices our brave soldiers and MARINES are making for us in Iraq. I mean realistically, in these particular scenes, their lives most likely are not in immediate danger. Unlike morons like "Kane", its seems obvious to me, thats exactly why they are filming. They have recieved the ok to pre-emptively knock down some suspected hideouts, or OPs, and are doing it while not under fire.
But that is beside the point. We are trying to bring the miserable pre-historic Iraqi forcibly into the 21st Century, and there are ALOT of medieval morons (Muslim-Arabs) who don't want that to happen. They'd rather the Middle East/Arab world stays the way it is and focus all their problems on the US or Israel.
The good thing, as far as I can tell from talking with soldiers and Marines who have served in Iraq is that MOST of the common Iraqi population wants us to STAY, and they HATE the idiots that are murdering innocents there.
