@gil69, I agree, that has always puzzled me as well. While I'm an easy going guy, most of the fights I've been in were the results of hostility mounting over a period of time. They were all assclowns (trust me, they really were) and I certainly didn't like them any better afterwards...

That reminds me of a fight I got into in college. Some guy at a holloween party was talkin shit and we went out to the yard with the crowd and everything. I then commenced to beat the living shit out of him but I felt kinda sorry for him so I turned and walked away when he ran up behind me and sucker punched me and slammed my head into a car bumper. I then got up and kicked the shit out of him again but I gave him mad props for dirty street fighting. Afterwards we partied together and it was all cool.
