A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away... I was in LA for my first time and was kind of excited to be there (what can I say, I was young once). I was staying at a hotel close to the airport and took a wrong turn on Century and ended up in Compton...

I realized that I seemed to have enter a demilitarized zone and looked for a little market or a gas station and finally found one and pulled over to ask for directions back (days long before GPS).

I am pale and had, as I do know; a High & Tight haircut. Basically, I looked like a white cop. I believe I was in my uniform (this is back in my Navy days...) As I was getting out of my car heading for the door, a black hooker starts to hoot and lights up a cigarette and looks all excited looking behind me.

I glance over my shoulder and see six rather large black fellows vectoring in on me; three to one side, three to the other. Well, discretion is the better part of valor, so I jumped back in my car and heading off. They following my car out into the street and actually threw something as I was driving away.

I didn't say squat to those guys, nor was I looking for trouble... Wrong color, wrong neighborhood... Racism and ignorance are color blind my friend... There are assholes of every stripe...

I used to be stationed in California in 1993-1995. Part of 'in-briefing' was a story of two white guys that made a wrong turn into compton. Guess a police car saw them and pulled them over. Asked the driver if he knew where they were. (also had out of town plates on car) THey said no. They were told that if they had driven another couple miles further, they would have become a statistic.

Forward to 2005:
I was in Redondo Beach and interviewing about transferring my realtor license there and move into that area. Mentioned that I drove past Compton on my way in. The realtor told me that nowadays..the 'thugs' are being pushed out of Compton, as the house prices have been going up...

Iv lived in SA for 21 years and i can tell you that there are way less white people here! You can say what you want but SA has come along way since the 1990s, but still..... you get this in the rural areas! They still live in the past and thats why they will never get anywhere!
