Comments - Virginia Tech Tragedy Victim Describes the Shooter

category: Shocking | views: 45635 | posted on: 04/16/2007

Usually I only update in the morning, but I'm sure just about everyone has heard about the horrific mass murders at the Virginia Tech campus. This kid, who was shot in the arm, describes his experience and the shooter.

hoooly shit. this is why students and faculty should be able to conceal carry. the right to bear arms means nothing when you can't take your piece anywhere.

If you don't peruse the forum and haven't seen what I posted there, this kid put it very well, it's a surreal feeling here on campus right now. None of us can believe this has happened, and like I said on the forum, the problem I am having is trying to make sure everyone I know is safe and unharmed. There are still some people I haven't been able to get in touch with, but they aren't releasing any information until all the next of kin have been notified. It's a sad, sad day here in Blacksburg and especially on campus, I don't know how else to describe it other than just outright sad and surreal. If any of you are religious people, please offer your prayers for everyone here on campus at VT and in Blacksburg and the families of those killed and hurt. I'll be attending the convocation tomorrow, and hopefully we'll be able to begin putting the pieces back together; although that's very unlikely for some time to come. icon_cry.gif

But does giving everyone guns solve anything? sure on this occasion it may have helped but if everyone had guns it would make it a hell of alot easier for someone like this to cause another tradgedy

I can't believe the scope of this massacre. 32 People!! And some will probably die of their injuries. What an awful thing. I hope that you find all your friends and that they're okay. Ya this is just horrible. And to be even more cowardly he takes his own life. Didn't want to deal with the repercussions. Can't say I would either but killing a ton of people and killing yourself is just so gay, because it leaves so many unanswered questions. Kind of like the murder of Dimebag Darrell.

Vthokie07, thx for your input and I hope your doing alright after your ordeal today. Well, as alright as anyone can be in this dark time.

@scott giving a professor a firearm may seem like a good idea, but students would know its there and if any of the students were a bit loony, knowing they could get a gun off the professor could encourage them to do it as well as the added benefit of having the classes only protection. I think that any students should be allowed to have a concealed weapon such as a knife and more securitry precautons should be made, but adding more guns to the solution will just end up with more dead
@toxicity the murder of dimebag was a sad time for all and left questions the no one can answer like why the fuck did Nathan Gale kill a metal ledgend? was it because he thought dime broke up pantera or stole his lyrics? nobody will ever know and that is just fucked up. don't know!!!!!!! but maybe. also you are correct, if the person just wants to die, like police suicide, it's going to happen anyway but personally, I would like to have the chance to defend myself, pull out my own weapon and give the 'ole college try. No pun intended

He's moving methodically picking off people one by one. It shouldnt take too long for people to realize after a few victims that this maniac is there to klll as many people as possible and should be brought down even if it means risking your own life. Again I wasn't there and it is simply impossible to put yourself in the shoes of the people that went through this ordeal but jesus man, 31 people!?!?!

Lets look at the percentages, very few berserk people out there. Lets give them big odds, one percent maniacs. That leaves 99 good sane pillars of society, one maniac, ninty nine good citizens, lets arm up. I carry a shotgun in my truck at all times, mainly for hunting. You won't find a retired cop in this country that doesn't carry a weapon. They know that one percent is out there. This has been going on since mankind began. Its not even one percent, more like one hundreth of one percent. Sad part is if someone would have killed this maniac and saved thirty lives he would be in jail now for killing a maniac without a permit.

33 (+) people this is insane... there are no answers for these types of crime, more guns would mean more shooting but less victims per incident, so 30 shooting with 1 victim or 30 victims per shooting.

Either way, ( not hating on the U.S here ) but the 10+k gun murders per year in the country vs >1k in every other developped country in the world makes you think it has something to do with society and its gun laws... i have no answers only questions...

Why this thing happens all the time IN US schools? like every year. Hugs to the victims and their families though.

I think the best way is to destroy or banned all guns and other exploding devices around the world from civilians to military. Stop the manufacture of guns/bullet. That way, all we got are physical combat without weapons and armor and if someone try to use knife and other things chances of survival will be greater than gun.

@Hugh: I'm actually a student here at VT, and have had friends involved in the shooting. According to people inside Norris Hall, he would walk up to a room, calmly look in, proceed to enter the room, and without precise aim would then unload an entire clip into the crowd gathered in the room, after first taking a shot at the professor that may be teaching the class. He'd then go to the next room, repeat the process, walk out, and reload and come back to the prior room to unload another clip in whoever remained. The students that survived from these rooms were the remaining ones who could move under their own power and had the strength to build an improvised barricade against the door when he walked out. In the one case of Derrick O'Dell, he and the only other survivor from his room did just this, and had to push against the barricade and door with their feet since it didn't have a lock; the gunman came back to the door, they said he appeared to get enraged, and began to unload another clip into the door after trying to break it down, then he just simply walked off and continued shooting from what they heard. The worst and most sadistic part of all of this, is the twisted bastard, upon entering Norris Hall, chained and locked the two main entrances/exits from the inside. Students ran to the doors to get out, discovered they couldn't due to the chains, and then ran back to the second floor to the other exits; thereby getting funneled right into his path of fire.

@ Master Shake and Cat: It makes no sense to me either. I was working on my Senior Research Project all morning because it was due today, and around 9:29 we received a UNIREL email from the university stating there had been a shooting at West AJ earlier in the morning. The problem with this, and the reason why so many of us students are upset, is that the shootings in West AJ occurred at 7:20am, so we got the first email about it two hours later. From 9:40 to 9:50 the gunman had already made it across campus to Norris Hall, and in that time frame killed the other 30 people and himself. THEN to add to the ridiculousness of the situation, at 9:53 the next email was sent out saying that a gunman was loose on campus, and for everyone to remain inside and away from windows. The only problem with this is the massacre had already occurred, and the gunman had already killed himself. The general consensus is someone severely dropped the ball here, seeing as how they assumed the first shootings were merely a domestic dispute and had assumed the gunman had left the area, or was already leaving the state from the information they knew. I agree, at that point, the entire campus should have been locked down by at least 8am, but again, the problem with this is that 10k students were already commuting to campus for 8am classes, and the first email hadn't even been sent out yet. I really don't know what should have been done, all I know is that it's so horribly tragic that this happened, and those students were allowed to enter Norris at all. icon_cry.gif

Since stricter gun laws were introduced in the Uk here, these kind of mass killings by deranged psychopaths(Thomas Hamilton, Dunblane, and Michael Ryan, Hungerford) have been stopped, simply because these people just cannot get access to firearms without a connection to the criminal underworld. It's a thought, and I know the USA has a very different take on the right to bear arms.
Apart from that, I have only immense sadness to impart to anyone involved in this tragedy. Tears are being shed all over the world for these young people, for what use tears may be. And thanks to the usual posters on this forum. Ive been following you guys for a few weeks now and have been mightily impressed by the quality of the thoughts and the standard of morality,(with a few lamentable exceptions) and never more than today.Well done for your insights. I think in certain countries/communities where you already have a very low gun related crime rate and therefore a very low number of guns in the hands of criminals it would be easier to ban guns and have a huge amount of success but in a country that already has a very high gun related crime rate like SA it means that there are way too many criminals with guns and therefore a high amount of illegal guns in circulation. In this case if you ban guns or limit the public to gun access the only people that will have guns are the criminals. It’s cliché , I know but it’s the truth. icon_cry.gif

It's the fear like the one you are expressing Covenant that keeps these massacres happening again and again, with americans/south americans etc. firmly believing that they are safer by having access to a military arsenal on every street corners because otherwise the big, bad criminals will come&get them. Thankfully, not all criminals are mafia criminals like the one in my avatar, my friend. Many are just "small time" criminals who are able to get their hands on automatic weapons not because they belong to organised crime but because they're available on every street corner.... If the US population could just quit entertaining this fear of the big, bad criminal coming to get you and let go of this ridiculous idea that they are safer with more lethal weapons in circulation, maybe some positive work could start getting done regading gun control and massacres like this one would be a thing of the past... But I guess that's a lot of wishfull thinking there...

Condolences to the families. Have to agree with tighter gun control. The 2nd amendment - a right to bear arms is outdated and dangerous.

This won't be the last time, it will happen again & again - each one trying to surpass the previous. Guns are too freely available and too easily accepted into peoples daily lives.

You need to get rid of all automatic & hand guns and very strict licences for hunting and target rifles. You need a gun amnesty and large fines and/or prison sentences for possession. Yes nasty bad people will not give them up but you'll find that you'll have no more gun robberies than you do now and in time as more & more guns are confiscated you'll feel safer.

Alternatively leave things as they are and I promise you - many many more bloodbaths will happen. Indefinitely.

Hand gun = device for one person to murder another person. Same for an automatic. So wrong.

@nousername, I appreciate your point of view but don`t get me wrong I do not own a gun and never will. Its just that I find it impossible to believe that criminals will not be deterred if they new that the chances that their victims had a gun or weapon of some sort to defend themselves with was high. Criminals are criminals and they will be the only ones with easy access to hand guns if guns were banned. Thats the fact of the matter. Trust me I would love to live in a country that had no guns whatsoever but that will never happen. If years ago , before guns became so common the governments had put restrictions on ownership etc it might have led to a current day lack of crime involving guns but they fucked up in the early days and our generation and future ones will face the brunt of it.
