ZEEK, sorry, I hope I can get back on your good side. Lot's going on here, mergers and buy outs, life goes on, I think I may be able to find my way back home. My son's out of college for the summer, sure would like to spend some time with him. We've had some pretty good fishing trips, long time ago.

jqp364 - most oaths of office for the position of mayor include the phrase "maintain the peace/public order" or words to that effect. So taken in that vein the mayor was within the scope of his duties to do what he did. Not saying it was smart, but his behavior was not automaticaly criminal either.

Of course for all we know the mayor was simply helping out under the "rendering aid to a peace officer" statute that every state has. Or maybe he was just showing off, who knows. Frankly we need more public officals who aren't afraid to stand out on the front lines with the police and see just how chaotic and crazy this line of work can be at times. Maybe then they will have a better understanding and appreciation for the job we do.
