Not enough altruists in the world. Religion inspires altruism a lot more than atheism does. There's too strong a correlation between atheism and egoism and the world would go to hell even more if you removed the religious element. Not saying Atheism couldn't work to better man kind, it just hasn't and won't until we learn to take that extra selfless step. Many examples and I'll give one; the ratio between atheist and religious missionaries? The drive just isn't there. It doesn't speak for everyone but like I said, a strong correlation. Must be mindful of these correlations and acknowledge them before mindlessly denoting elements of society claiming without due process that it's something we don't need and deserves to be extracted.
