The thought of Jordan having an army makes me laugh. They are nothing more than a safe house for US, Israeli, and British seceret intelligence. I would argue it may be the safest place for an American to go to in the middle east (besides egypt..- but even that place can get a little hairy if you arent with the right poeple..)

My best guess would be that they were practicing a maneuver. They did a good job, though it still looks funnny as hell.

Toxicity: You know..I would have to agree with you. Besides the Gulf Arab nations, Jordan would be the safest followed closely by Egypt. Jordan is not that large population wise. Many of them have american passports. Their king (His Majesty King Abdallah II) really cares about the prosperity of his country. A large part of that prosperity is due to compliance with various U.S. demands.

Did you know the late King Hussein frequently leaked secret convorsational information to both the CIA and MOSSAD? he shared with the late Palestinian leader/icon Yasser Arafat? Not to mention he was on the CIA payroll a one point!!

I guess it would have been better to say that Jordan is (politically) a safe place for Americans despite what some areas may seem to think. They were good on the dismount....but they left themselves open as targets (The should have taken a knee or gone prone) and apart from the Jeep, they had no cover in close proximity.
