Yet again, police used tasers inappropriately.

They are not supposed to be used just to avoid a fight. They are supposed to be used AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO DEADLY FORCE.

There was no question that the police in this case had options -- many options -- other than the use of deadly force. Therefore, the taser was completely inappropriate.

These asshole cops, instead, have been using them as a way to avoid having to get their hands dirty. As a convenience. And I call bullshit.

The cops had the right to use the tazer.

As you can see within the beginning of the video, the man swings at the officer upon arrival. This tells us that the man is not only intoxicated, but he is violent. There's no telling what he has hidden within his clothing either.

Cops risk their lives every single day to protect us. Believe it or not, cops are also human, which means they also contain fear. When someone swings at you like that, fear is embedded in you somewhat - anything can happen.

The officer(s) could have used pepper spray or a tazer. The tazer was a little more long ranged, and it took the man out. The idiotic drunk is lucky he didn't get shot.

The tazer is used as a tool to take out a criminal, especially in questionable cases such as these. If you were a cop and walked up to a man and the first time they did was swing at you, what would you do?

"Guys, I am going in!". Hell no. You're utilizing the tools you have to keep yourself safe, while also innitiating justice in the process.

First off, bdave, using all caps doesn't make your comment more justified, nor intense. Turn it off.

Second, I rewatched the clip three more times for a closer analysis, and he mooned them on purpose, or bent over at least. Either way, it was demeaning to say the least.

There are two officers in the beginning of the clip - the larger one, and the one dressed in a darker blue/black. The larger one goes to TALK (yes, he tries to solve the matter diplomatically), and the guy swings at him. The other police officer starts to walk over there, and then turns away to control the surrounding people.

By the time he bends over, there is still no mace used on the suspect, nor any other means of physically hurting him.

Let the cops do their job. I am a major in criminal justice in college, I am sure I know more about this stuff than you do - by a long shot.

If you are screaming "Police Brutality!"... then you're no smarter than the drunk man. Try to picture it from the cop's point-of-view. An intoxicated, angry, and violent man just took a swing at you once you tried merely talking to him. Now he is not cooperating, and is obviously demeaning the police.

Ok, chem1calburn. I will take the hit on the caps lock. However, without going into details, let me just say that I know WAY more about this stuff than you do. Point being. I watched the clip again, and if you stop it at 28 seconds, you see the officer wearing the dark uniform walking towards the subject with his right arm fully extended and you can see his hand turned upwards like he is holding something in it. I have never seen anyone approach someone of that man's size with just one hand extended. There would be no way to block a punch. It is just not tactical at all. The officer makes a half-circle around the suspect with his hand raised high in front of him but never touches the man. Also, if he was trying to go hands on, why would he be walking around to the get in front of the man allowing him to see the officer?? He (the officer) then turns around and threatens the crowd with this same "empty" hand. Either he has a super-human mechanical arm, capable of killing a man by ponting in his direction, or I am right and he was just emptying a can of oleoresin capsicum (pepper-spray) in to the man's face. After which time the man immediately bends over and is visibly coughing. He then stands up, trying to fight off the effects of the pepper spray, and becomes even more angry. I have also never see anyone moon people by just bending over. Usually, they bend over while reaching behind themselves and holding their pants down. This man did neither. He was coughing from the pepper spray. Don't make me get a copy of the police report to prove this either Mr. Criminal Justice flunky. Just watch the clip again. NOW that's all.

Look at :43. If he was so hurt and traumatized by the initial shot of the pepper spray, then why is he dancing?

Also, lets say that the cop in the darker uniform DOES have some pepper spray in his hand, look at the black man's direction. The pepper spray, if sprayed directly at the man, would have hit him in the side of the face, or the neck. Most police officers would confront the man face-to-face to get a direct shot at the eyes to ensure that the enemy goes down. This officer, if he did spray some pepper spray, did not.

Also, are you telling me it's not possible that the officer in the dark uniform to have an empty hand? Any person with common sense knows that if a person feels threatened, they put their hand(s) out. It's not a fighting stance, that's for sure, but it calculates the distance at which the foe is in case he runs at you, allowing the officer to throw his other hand. Also, this stance is used to show some calmness.

In either situation, the officers made the right choice buddy. The guy could have had a knife/gun concealed in his pants. Plus the demeaning dance and the "moon" (supposedly accidental) were simply demeaning to the cops' images.

Buddy, nex time take some common sense into consideration. Like I said before, the cops risk their lives daily to ensure the safety of our lives against idiots like these. What if this drunk man went out and killed someone? I guarentee you wouldn't be singing the same tone.

Also, get a copy of the police report. I wanna see how much authority you have, and how much information you can dig up about a mere internet video. So, I take your challenge, and I would like to see a police report. I am pretty sure you will not be able to get a hold of it.

Seeming as you know so much about LE, how does this in any way violate the force continuum? The man is in the middle of the road, posing danger to the general public and the officers, upon approach, the officer in blue kept his 6 foot distance, even thought being swung at by the suspect. The officer in black was approaching the suspect at the 2; maintaining his distance, while he was covered at the suspects 3 by the officer in blue. That’s why the officer in black could approach as such, HE WAS COVERED. The officer in black then turned to the crowd, possibly being the suspect’s friends, to keep the situation from turning worse and keeping them back. Obviously your comments show you have never been in a use of force situation.
