I'd love to see that up close like those people did. I'm surprised no-one was blown away by the engines! ![]()

That reminds me of that scene from Wayne's World where they lay on the car at the end of the runway, except more terrifying.

I don't see how this is possible, the outtake from those jet engines is enough to flip a car from like 30 yards away, but the people behind the plane werent even phased by it. Also why the fuck are people on that beach? There's a lot of sand that doesn't have big ass planes dive bombing you every few minutes.

True, outtake from jet engines can flip cars, but only when running at close to top speed. BUT THE ENGINES ARE NOT RUNNING AT FULL SPEED!! Nowhere near! The plane is about to land for craps sake! Why on earth would a plane have it's engines running at full speed when it's about to land?! Engage your brains people!

You probably won't believe me, but I just went there (St. Marin) for my honeymoon 1 month ago and we stayed at the hotel you see at the other end of the beach in the video. Here's the straight poop. The runway is just big enough to handle large jets. One end is the beach in the video and the other end butts up against some mountains. The jet in the video is the largest one that can land there...it is an Air France flight that comes in non-stop from France (St. Martin is a French colony).

I'll take your word for it, but why the hell are people allowed to stand on that beach with such a small margin for error between death and life? It makes no sense. Sure those engines are powering down but when it comes right down to it they're still probably fewer than 30 years from a jet engine, and even at low output it's extremely dangerous.

Here's the rest of the story. Getting back to France, it can't take off with a full fuel load because of the short runway so going back is a one stopper to get more fuel. We spent a week there and saw tons of planes come and go, including daily Air France jumbo's, and the one in the video was definately closer to the ground than ones I saw. Not by much, but you can hear the pilot correct his coming in a little low by the engine being throttled up a bit. Lastly, they take off heading the same direction they land, and people really do get blown out into the ocean when the plane throttles up with the brakes on prior to take off.
