This has already been done on wrestling... Many times.

It's an interesting way to end a fight...pretty similar to the first fight between Matt Hughes and Carlos Newton. Newton had Hughes in a triangle choke...Hughes lifted Newton up in the air and eventually slammed him to the mat, knocking him out. What wasn't clear immediately was that Matt didn't slam him, but rather passed out from the choke and dropped to the ground. The ref saw that Newton was out and called the match in favor of Hughes. Hughes didn't know he was champion, until his corner told him what happened.

I found it interesting that they changed the ruling in this situation even after the fight had been called.
