maybe we are jumping to conclusions here. Maybe this is a difficult vocabulary question for the French.

A good example would be the way English speakers mix up the word longitude and latitude.

Maybe this is a similar mistake, and has nothing to do with the fact that they realize the earth is rotating around the sun.

I didn't know that English speakers got mixed up between longitude and latitude. If anybody does the easiest way to remember the difference is longitude is ALONG the East/West of a compass line and latitude expresses how far North or South you are.
