If any of the customers had been armed, this could have been stopped pretty early. If I were a customer, and I were armed, I would sure as hell shoot this guy.

But yeah and for every 1 criminal shot by a vigilante 10 innocent people will accidentally get capped by a stray bullet.
Plus all those vigilante heroes are gonna be capping people who don't even have a weapon but are committing a crime. Even if everyone could be trusted to only use them in a truly life-threatening situation, though, you're turning an armed robbery (the vast majority of which do not end in violence or death) into a definitely violent, probably fatal situation, and not always for the criminal. Leave it to the police, guns everywhere isn't a better solution, it'd probably just make the problem a whole lot worse. Vigilante justice didn't work too good in the wide open Wild West, it's not going to work too well in a crowded suburban environment.

While there is much that is blatantly wrong in your post, especially regarding law-abiding citizens who carry firearms, I'll just focus on one aspect: You should never, under any circumstances, assign your personal moral beliefs to a dangerous criminal.
You might think "This gunman is only here to rob the store and leave with some money, he won't kill anyone" right before the scumbag starts systematically murdering everyone in the store, a la the video a few days ago. Simply put, criminals don't think like normal people. Murdering you for five dollars or no money at all may seem an appealing choice to them at the time.
So before you urge us all to "leave it to the police," I'd urge you to put yourself in the shoes of any victim of a situation in which an assailant is armed and you are not. I guarantee you would be wishing you had a firearm. Does it automatically solve the situation? Of course not. Could things potentially end up worse? Without question. But it would make a difference, one way or the other, and some of us would like to die fighting than get popped groveling and trying to be a "good" victim.

Then you can take a look at the 200,000 accidental shootings each year. Then you can think about the fact that most of those shootings happen in the privacy of ones own home, not a crowded urban environment. I think you can fit the puzzle pieces together nicely there.

No such thing as an "accidental shooting." All that exists are negligent discharges. And the actual statistics for "accidental" shootings (according to Wikipedia) are closer to 25,000 wounded, with those who die being classified in with the 11,000 firearm homicides in America. This is less than the 500,000 deaths from alcohol, the 300,000 deaths from poor diet/obesity, the 32,000 dead from adverse reactions to prescription pills, etc. But all these statistic don't really matter because they will never change anyone's mind on the matter.
As for armed robbery/armed robbery murder statistics, I feel one fact overrules them all: firearms are used by law-abiding citizens in this country in self-defense anywhere from a conservative 1,000,000 times per year to a liberal 2,500,000 times per year. While nobody can predict what may have happened, this probably means many thousands of murders, rapes, robberies, and other crimes did not take place because of the millions and millions of crime-free firearms and their owners in America.
The argument for gun control (or the belief that 115 women should have to wrestle with 215 pound rapists, as I call it sometimes) is a weak one, and when the statistics are looked at in an unbiased, unpoliticized, and professional manner gun-control advocates always come out looking uneducated.

I used to hang out at a gas station after work, they did all the work on my car, and they were never robbed. The owner was a licensed gun carrier. The store accross the street was robbed rather often. That lets you know that robbers case the "joint" first in most cases.
One point that Notor is missing is that citizens who legally carry guns are trained. I don't know how often they have to go to refresher courses, but if it's only once, I think it should be every two years.
