This is what you call 'freeride' redbull pioneered it with redbull rampage...if you type that into youtube or something similar you'll see how those bike are designed to jump off cliffs..........I was a test rider for a company and I too ate shit lots...snapped in 3 collar bone, numerous concussions, broken toes and fingers, hole in my side, dislocated shoulder......when it goes right it feel awesome....when it doesnt it hurts. It's now got crazier than this and guys are backflipping cliffs...check out adidas slopestyle. Needles to say I quit the job as a test rider.
Freeriding was around long before the Rampage. Kamloops, where this was filmed, is arguably the birthplace of freeriding. Although it really started in North Vancouver. The lip of the drop crumbled away as he was taking off and this was the result. Sicker drops are available, just google "josh bender".

I remember reading about this elsewhere. The guy in the video said he intentionally bailed when he felt it start to go wrong. The idea was that he would avoid landing on his head and breaking his neck. He broke his ankles instead. Good tradeoff.
