No matter how sophisticated weaponry gets these days, there's still not much to account for recoil, bullet-spread (although Metal Storm Limited does a decent job with the first two), wind-drift, and human error. Is it just me, or did it also sound like a live training mission....one dude says "This is soooo awesome" as if he's never done it before. Then he played with his pee-pee.

It's mainly to do with sketchy range finding by the computers. If they have a low target attitude the computers can easily find incorrect ranges, a little like the autofocus on an DSLR lens if anyone's ever used one. If they were firing from a more elevated angle, the range finding would have been a little better, and therefore a more accurate splash would have painted. (That's not to say they should have fired from higher position of course, I am well aware of the tactical disadvantages involved in that!)

The extreme azimuth that the gunner was repeatedly forced to fire at will have greatly reduced his accuracy. Firing deflection shots on the limit of his gun's azimuth makes the targetting computer's predictions less precise and increases the spread of the falling rounds.
You hear him say several times "azimuth limit" (i.e his gun won't turn any further) when he is ordered to fire and he has to wait (quite a long time) for the pilot to turn so that he can lead his shot properly.

might be innocent, might be friendly soldiers, no blood on your hands, no images of body matter to think about, I wouldn’t be able to push a button and kill people (apart from in GTA) unless I was 100% sure they were all the enemy, and I’d probably still give them a warning burst of fire and a chance to surrender first

I don't get how everyone is making the assumption these are terrorists. Maybe I'm just ignorant but I see no evidence to suggest this. How do you know they were not legitimate soldiers attacked by an invading army, or even civillians? It wouldn't be the first time they got hit by trigger-happy troops.

I hear an Apache can fire at the enemy from 2km away. Imagine metal bullets the size of your forearm whistling through the air from that distance and having no idea where they're coming from but knowing only that they're aimed at you.
