*Warning: very graphic* I'm not sure where I was on May 19th, 2004, but I'm glad it wasn't Laos. This is horrible...

The aftermath of a food delivery gone... HORRIBLY WRONG!
This is how it really went down. God of ol' Testament wanted some Kung Pao chicken. But He instead got General Tso's chicken and, on top of that, the delivery came oh, I don't know, 20 or so minutes late.
Badabing badaboom.

LANDMINES!!!
Notice the ankles (& missing feet if the victims).
The following is a glimpse into the issue...
There are 340 different types of land mines.
Made by 100 different companies.
Every day 6,000 fresh mines go into the ground.
There are 110,000,000 land mines-
in 72 countries.
Every 22 minutes-one explodes.
Every month 700 people are maimed or killed.
... thats 26,000 per year.
Mines cost only the equivalent of THREE DOLLARS to manufacture & put into the ground.
They cost hundreds of dollars to disarm and remove.
If you tried to remove them all...
it would cost $33,000,000,000.00 (Billion with a B)
and take over 1,000 years to do.
In Cambodia-one out of every 236 civilians is missing a limb (or eye) from an exploded land mine.
Cambodia has over 30,000 people in said condition-
with over 4,000,000 mines still in the ground.
*which makes one wonder...
if some unlucky, one legged Cambodian has ever stepped on a land mine with his good leg.

How can you say that about Gustav Mahler's work?
This is one of the extremely few songs from pre-1900 that I can appreciate; Mahler's work here in the video is from the soft-tuned, harmonic Urlicht whose lyrics are here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w iki/Symphony_No._...Fourt h_Movement
The section of music in the video is from the 2nd minute of the fourth movement of Symp. #2. If you would download this song, then in just the first minute, you would experience such a soft-toned, yet sympathetic mood, surely should hear just a few times in full before giving up music altogether.

A number of ethnic minority groups, especially the Hmong, were allied to the US during the Viet Nam war and its spill-over fighting in Laos and Cambodia. In the aftermath of the creation of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in 1975, up to a third of the Hmong ethnic minority, estimated to some 300,000 in 1970, are believed to have fled the country, mostly to be resettled in the USA.
An unknown number of Hmong and other minorities have remained in the jungle to this day, hiding from the Lao military. Some groups have continued armed resistance to the Lao government, but many are not involved in fighting. In recent years a variety of sources have revealed to the outside world the dismal situation and increasingly desperate struggle for survival of such groups, including women, children and elderly people.

What's even more sad is that those are what you call Hmong. They backed the Americans as CIA operatives during the Vietnam War. Now that the was has been over for 30+ years, the Communist continue to masscare these people because of their involvement with the United States.
These people continue to live in the jungles of Laos because the Communist (Laos) continues to kill them. Here is the actual news column for that video.

this is the genocide of the Hmong pp in the jungle of Laos. the Hmong pp used to fight against the Laos pp for the US, later the US retreived and left the Hmong pp in hiding. The Hmong pp is a small ethnic group that dont want to liberate themselve for a nation of their own, although they are accused of so. google it, "hmong genocide"

these girls' grandfathers supported the united states in the viet war...then we left them to die...they are still being hunted and killed even today by what is essentially vietcong...it is genocide and nobody cares since they are brown...the hmong have paid the ultimate price for being friends of democracy...now their children are being raped and slaughtered and we sit here and make jokes...same thing happens in all US wars where allies in a losing war are left to die...cuba, Nicaragua, grenada, el salvador, iraq, afghanistan, etc etc...what a terrible legacy we leave as americans protecting our economic interests in third world countries... ![]()

Actually, this is a video of the Hmong people hiding in the jungle from being persecuted by the government for helping the United States fight in the Vietnam war. They are being hunted like animals, raped, and crucified because of their willingness to help the U.S., who abandoned these people with no help after the war was over. U.S. would have never gotten as far as they did in the Vietnam war if it wasn't for these people. These Hmong people were the ones who risk their lives in the front lines. They were the ones who died being out numbered 3 to 1 to save downed American pilots.
To this day, 30 + yrs. later, Hmong people are still fighting for their lives, running and hiding in the jungles of Laos to escape persecution. It's a genocide that has been brought to the American Government's attention, but only to be pushed aside and brushed off like they never existed. It's a sad, sad story.
It's funny how the United States is willing to go to other countries and help out when these other countries are in civil wars like Kosovo or Bosnia, but they are not willing to help the people who had a population of a couple million prior to helping the U.S. in the Vietnam War to a devastating few thousand left who are now running for their lives in the jungle....
