It's scary, but it's a really common way to die. If people would slow down a little this can be avoided. Slower speed= more reaction time to respond to a situation. This happend to a friend of mine that passed-away back in high school. He was driving these two girls and one of their boyfriends home from a party. They were VERY drunk and were speeding down a dark two way road. They collided head-on with a married couple (luckly no kids). ONLY the passanger (the wife) of the married couple survived the accident. One of the girls my friend was driving, had a coke can embedded in her face when police found her.
