What I think is these Westboro Baptists are not doing religion a service, far from it. Saying "America is doomed" is stupid, when people genuinely repent of their sins they are saved. One will not suffer because of the sins of others, and there are many good people in America (and the rest of the world) so America is not doomed. And their provocative attitude, like the fact they're being thankful for 9/11 in which many innocent and righeous people died makes religion look repulsive.
So people, do not think the Westboro Baptists represent are the real representatives of religion.
