I have an old acquaintance that shot at a police dog and was almost charged with attempted murder, I think the only reason he wasn't charged is because the officers shot him a few times. He's now serving 25+ in prison, I'm sure if he hit the dog he would have gotten life.

This guy is on trial for killing an important dog but all the people who abuse normal animals get fines. It sounds like if you kill an important animal you get in serious trouble but if its a normal everyday animal then you get a slap on the hand.

So, if an animal attacks me and I move...accidentally falling into harms way in the process, it's my fault? This is litigious shite. He should sue the dog breeder for breeding a stupid dog, that made him fall of the bridge and hurt himself in that case.

I was thinking the same thing.I can't figure out how anyone could survive that unless there was water. 
I just wanted to add though the charges seem harsh these dogs give their lives up for their partners,and are considered to be Police.The charges are more severe when hurting a cop because of the nature of their job.To Serve And Protect.It was an accident but his breaking the law and giving the police a chase wasn't.I think this dog also may have saved this guy's life.

Stryker the police dog died in plunge from Coronado bridge. A Vista man has been charged with the death of an Oceanside police dog after he grabbed the canine and leaped off the San Diego-Coronado Bridge following a police chase Monday night, authorities said. Cory Byron, 27, also is charged with evading arrest and drunken driving. He survived the 200-foot leap into San Diego Bay, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said, but was hospitalized with a collapsed lung at UCSD Medical Center Tuesday. Oceanside police said Officer Kedrick Sadler was patrolling with his Belgian shepherd, Stryker, when he spotted Byron become involved in a minor traffic accident on College Boulevard about 6:30 p.m. Instead of stopping, Byron headed west on state Route 76 and then south on Interstate 5, with Sadler and CHP officers in pursuit, police said. Less than an hour later, Byron exited I-5 at the bridge and stopped his GMC pick-up truck near the highest point and got out. Sadler released Stryker, whom police said bit Byron and pulled him to the ground. Byron then allegedly grabbed the dog and jumped over the concrete barrier into the bay, where he was rescued by harbor police, according to authorities

Its the same as if you get in a car accident, and it is completely the other persons fault, you did absolutely nothing wrong, BUT you had no car insurance. BAM. Its now your fault. Because YOU shouldnt have even been driving.
If he wouldnt have been a dumb ass, driving around drunk, and then running from the cops, they wouldnt of had to use the dog, therefore the dog wouldnt have died from falling with his stupid ass from a 200 foot bridge.

i feel bad for the dog, but to try to charge the guy for harming it is rly dumb, assuming the dog willingly jumped over after the suspect, which seems to be the case. by that logic that guy should be able to file a complaint saying he was harmed becuz he was chased over the bridge.
