I'll tell you what, all these "hillbilly"/"redneck" terms mean the same thing to me: inferring a choice to be overly laid back in certain actions and vocal tones, particularly being too lazy to say R in their words, like "credit card," and the loss or reduced usage of their lower pharynx to produce low-frequency audibles in words like "supermarket" and "oboe"). So, I hardly see it as racist, but more of vocal laziness.

Oh, and we do have some completely clueless such folks in moose country who also follow certain actions, like... taking 10 months to install a generator, or refusing to plow for 3 inches of snow, or paving over a decent road and leaving others (dirt and rock) unpaved just because the tax collector lives on it. To me, it's always been about choice + laziness with these people. I've never really seen these Jerry-Springer-like fights as hillbilly-ish, and especially not even compared to the real "hillbillies" who have absolutely zero brains, as barely outlined above.
