Comments - Horrific Fiery Crash in Tunnel
category: Accidents | views: 57336 | posted on: 09/02/2008
This accident was caused by the driver of the truck on the left who thought the inside of a tunnel was a good place to change a flat tire. Surprising how someone that intelligent ended up being a truck driver.

That's insane. What the hell kind of moron has so little patience that he can't wait to get out of the tunnel to take a flat off? Note: Yeah, it's a bummber, but you can still drive a short distance on a flat! Wake up call, moron! He better get sued for all the bullshit that he caused right there, the fire, the videos, and all of the collisions.

The earliest tires were bands of iron (later steel), placed on wooden wheels, used on carts and wagons. The tire would be heated in a forge fire, placed over the wheel and quenched, causing the metal to contract and fit tightly on the wheel. A skilled craftsman, known as a wheelwright, carried out this work. The tension of the metal band served the purpose of holding or "tying" the wooden spokes of the wheel together, hence the term "tire"[citation needed]. In addition to tying the spokes together, the tire also provided a wear-resistant surface to the perimeter of the wheel. As wheels changed over time, the term "tire" continued to be used for the outer band even when it no longer served the purpose of tying the spokes together.
The word "tire" is probably an obsolete version of "attire".[1] Tire is the older spelling, but both were used in the 15th and 16th centuries (for a metal tire); tire became the settled spelling in the 17th century but tyre was revived in the UK in the 19th century for pneumatic tyres, possibly because it was used in some patent documents, though many continued to use tire for the iron variety. The Times newspaper was still using tire as late as 1905.[2]
The first practical pneumatic tire was made by the Scot, John Boyd Dunlop, in 1887 for his son's bicycle, in an effort to prevent the headaches his son had whilst riding on rough roads (Dunlop's patent was later declared invalid because of prior art by fellow Scot Robert William Thomson).
Pneumatic tires are made of a flexible elastomer material, such as rubber, with reinforcing materials such as fabric and wire. Tire companies were first started in the early 20th century, and grew in tandem with the auto industry. Today, over 1 billion tires are produced annually, in over 400 tire factories, with the three top tire makers commanding a 60% global market share

It's a tunnel in Melbourne, Victoria, AU. An Olympic cyclist medal winner was in the car that is burning between the truck and the wall.

I've never understood the optimism behind tunnel design. The designers seem to assume that no car will ever break down inside a tunnel. And so, there doesn't need to be any place for cars to stop. Yeah, I know it costs more to make tunnels bigger. But the damage caused by explosions isn't exactly free.

Yeah, a truck was stopped for some reason. How about trashing the meth taking moron that rear ended the vehicle behind the blue flatbed. It's hard to follow as crappy as this traffic cam is but that's what seemed to happen. Is there a shortage of hard drive space guys? Come on, take at least 10 frames a second.
