Did you know that car goes from 0 to douchebag in 1.8 seconds? And it has leather seats standard!

No automaker should revive a dead name unless the car is superior to the original. The new Charger is a poser's wannebe. The new 'old style' Camaro is a fucking joke. Ford's GT40 is a passable example of reviving a dead name. If you didn't keep the name going in the past, then all you're doing is following some trend. The Chevy Corvette is a respectable American musclecar because it has the lineage and the faith of the automaker to keep the 'idea' of what the Corvette represents, even in tough times. I think it shows the lack of imagination of domestic designers going back to a style from 50 years ago, like the 'revived' Thunderbird.
i can go either way on reviving an iconic automobile. A newer GTO is far superior to most(if not all) older GTO's(net vs. gross rating HP),ride,MPH, fit/finish, etc., the newer GTO's are kinda ugly, beyond that major drawback, it's a badass. 400+HP stock at a net rating is allways a good thing, and at around 30large, a bargain.
same argument as above with the new Challenger and Camaro.
Corvettes are (historically) "sports-cars" not muscle-cars.
All automakers follow trends. it's the nature of the beast.
as an aside, i remember very well going with my Dad when he bought a new 65 GTO. Black w/red intr., 4sp., etc., etc., Hot rides were allways in our family too(uncles/cousins).
I've owned a 71 440 'Cuda, 70 Nova SS, and a couple of other "muscle-cars", and would take anyone of those old cars anyday of the week over their newer rendentions, but as hard as it is for me to admit to, the newer cars are far and away superior autos. objectively speaking(IMO).

You said it right. Your old man had it right too. The Cuda rocks still.

The era of musclecars, say mid 60's thru early 70's is unique. Domestic automakers were testing the limits of wide range appeal to very high hp cars. In 1965, you could order a 'Vette convertible with a 427 fuel injected putting out over 550 hp. Many big block musclecars of that era were putting out over 450 hp. You can't compare what was being built then to what is available stock today. I used the GT40 as a passable example because it is superior in every aspect to the original. My point is, you can't take the style, or image of a by gone era and not pay homage to what the point of that car was - horsepower.
