That was a scary as hell to watch.....as a citizen you assume that cops will follow procedure and put their lights & sirens on and take precaution when going through red lights. That is why I always look both ways when approaching an intersection when I have the green light. Never assume you are safe...stay defensive and stay alive.

It's crazy seeing this from a 1st person view... but it's pretty damn annoying seeing this cop fly through the light not only without his sirens, but not even slowing down to make sure it was clear for him to go. In the video the whole left turning lane is backed up at the light. There is no way the person who had the green light could see the cop coming.

That person did jump the light but the cop was still at fault...IMO. Always check the cross traffic and never assume anything...cops fuck up too.

You need to get your eyes check, the last one was red. There were actually 4 lights here. The first two were green, the third was green the switched to yellow before he got there. The last was red. I tend to be on the cop's side most of the time but not here.

wow umteen people watched the same vid over and over and still we get varied accounts as to what transpired and who's at fault. A few things come to mind that tells me this cop is now unemployed and probably facing some serious charges. The cop was traveling way to fast on what appears to be a curved rainy road way filled with blind spots and traffic everywhere. If he had his lights on ( hard to tell), no one appears to give a shit, cause i really didn't see any brake lights or anyone pulling over and STOPING. A couple vehicles got out of the way, but anyone would get out of the way if a vehicle was going to ram up your ass if you didn't. Clearly, he did not have his siren on or you would hear it in the video. He went through a yellow light at one those intersections that have another street in close proximity to which change at the same time. If so, he should have known the light he was coming to was going to be red. I could be wrong on the last one. Lastly, and this is the scary part, how can so people confuse a red light for a green light? The cop ran a red light entering an intersection that already had a vehicle in it. Even if he had lights,siren, and all traffic pulled over, he still must exercise good judgement going through a red light. Bad or poorly trained cop, dead person, huge lawsuit- as it should be.

For the dash cam to be on his lights must be on. It automatically starts the camera when they are put into stage one. Also if you look at the beginging of the clip you can see vehicles moving out of the way as he approaches.

I could only see something with it paused at 2:34 but you're right you can see an outline it seems of what would be the person in the car looking at the cop car at the very last second, there is a small illumination on the face, mainly the nose it looks like to me but you can clearly see the view of the light through the drivers side window being seen from the cops view through the passenger side. The outline you can see of what might be the victim is silhouetted with a slight illumination on the face. Is is creepy.

Anyways, The cop was more then likely in the wrong. It would really depend on the state laws and departments policies, but in most places you need lights and siren to go through traffic signals. You must also proceed with caution.
One thing we don't know, is what he was responding too. That could change the circumstances. Was he responding to a call of someone shooting up a school? Stressful situations cause people to do weird things. Many questions left unanswered.

the dashboard camera only comes on when the lights and sirens are on. how in the world could that ford taurus driver not hear the cop car?

even if he had his siren on which he didn't it's still the cop cars fault. lets say he did have full lights and sirens going. you are still supposed to stop or at least slow down to 15 mph (California stat law) when going through a red light. and when you reach a cross intersection like that you can't here the sirens at all until the last minute. studies have proven that. so therefore cops are supposed to drive with due regard for the safety of others. If a driver doesn't yield to them. the cop has to stop and let him go to avoid a crash.
