In my late teens I worked with groups of kids who had varying degrees of Down's Syndrome and the one thing that was absent from all of their personalities was the notion to be aggressive or mean. It is difficult to understand how their minds work and why they express themselves as they do but what occurred in this video was in no way an attack on the small child, it was a surprised reaction and typical of the DS person to make an acknowledgment and approach and raise his leg since he had something in his hand. It seems to me that in recent years, political correctness has completely replaced that old thing called common sense. I often hear the arguement that every time someone with a disability of some sort does something wrong, it's not their fault and that they are the victim in every scenario they are involved in. If someone with Downs Syndrome killed someone for example, they would still gain a degree of sympathy.
Look, if that was a dog that attacked that child, it would have been put down. There would not be a mention of the fact that the dog isn't as mentally abled as you or I. The hard fact is, having a disability is not a licence to do as you please without concequences. I have all the respect in the world for people who live with disabilites, but if they want to be treated as equal human beings, then they can't expect to avoid an equal degree of justice.

Down Syndrome has nothing to do with hitting or not able to control your mind. It is simply a growth disorder. If the kid/guy is out, and the growth disorder has affect on what he thinks, he should not be allowed in public as it is a threat on human life.

There is a lot of disturbing prejudice and ignorance shown in the comments posted here. DS involves learning difficulties, and sometimes a failure to think of the consequences. Blu3dagger should go back to school and learn some facts - DS is not "simply a growth disorder." Sometimes people with learning difficulties can be unpredictable, just like the rest of us. Maybe the guy would have kicked the kid even if he didn't have DS. Don't judge everyone with DS the same. They are all individuals, and this individual was clearly pissed off - he shouldn't have kicked the kid - something most of us would know not to do - but wouldn't you be pissed if you had to live in a world full of the sort of prejudiced fucktards who post comments on this site?

The way the downs kid immediately kicked the little boy seemed to indicate learnt behaviour----probably got away with it before. The father reacted instinctively by putting the downs kid on a "behaviour modification program" i.e a smack in the gob.If nothing else the downs kid is unlikely to lash out with kicks in the future.

It didn't look to me like the toddler suffered any pain or injury. As a father of both a mentally handicapped child and non handicapped children, i would have to say that the actions of the toddlers father were out of line. That young man with Down's Syndrome may be of the same mental age as the toddler. I'm not condoning his actions, I just think the reaction of the toddlers father were a bit overboard.

Condone his actions or not, bottom line is the father of this TODDLER saw a person 3-4 times the size of his TODDLER kick at his son. Regardless if the father did or didn't notice that the boy had a disability, he had to have realized he wasn't an adult. It is against the law for an adult to hit a child or a minor under 18, like that. He could have pushed or held him in place to protect the toddler. If the boy was killed, the father would be guilty of manslaughter.
