This is why we can't transport Rosie O'Donnell in tractor trailers anymore.

when the forklift went through the floor, that guy stayed leaning against the wall. he was not surprised at all.

this was actually a post accident video. (or, as it turned out, a BETWEEN accident video) You can clearly see that the wall was already breached. Sunlight shining in before the floor collapsed. I would imagine the forklift operator got into the wall while loading the truck. They brought out the camera for the incident report. The supervisor in blue ordered the lift truck driver to remove the load, and this is what happened. Now you know....the rest of the story.

After this incident, Tonka quit producing full sized trailers and went back to making toys.

It's probably the result of a cheap trucking company that doesn't pay attention to the condition of it's trailers and doesn't care because they don't want to spend the money on repairs or replacement, it wasn't the weight of the forklift, it was a standard propane powered forklift, the trailer was just a POS and was poorly maintained.

hubble.....you have no clue what the hell you are talking about...ive been a forklift mechanic for 15 years...you ALWAYS back out of the trailer with the load....there is not enough room to "turn around" with the load

it was the weight of the lift, and the condition of the trailer. The "standard" 5000 pound capacity forklift weighs approximately 8000 pounds, not counting the load it picks up. It is very easy to break thru the floor if you dont stay toward the center of the trailer (right over the main frame rails) I have seen many fall thru the trailer

There are no "main frame rails" chriskieninger. Freight trailers have a series of lateral beams and that's it - their structure is secured by the rigidity of the entire box structure. That's why flatbed trailers DO have parallel frames. As you can see when they show the exterior, there is no "main frame rail" of any kind - just the lateral members. And you two guys arguing about turning around are saying the same thing - you can't turn around in a trailer, nor would you be wise to try.
Lastly, you can't stay towards the center because most freight is put in on standard pallets, which sit side-by-side, so you usually will, in fact, see forklifts running along one side or the other. The whole bunch of you should do some research before opining on such things.
The trailer was clearly deficient, and that's all there is to it. They are designed to hold loads of up to 40,000, if not more. Obviously, that can't all be in one spot, but if a medium-duty forklift with any kind of regular freight is enough to break the floor away from the wall base frame, the trailer needed replacing long ago... and there are a lot of trailers out there like that!
