he knows where the knife is the whole time by one of many ways. a few being by small mark on table where knife is put and also on the cup that covers the knife. people wouldn't normally see it and because of bad res (of video) neither can you.
now to the knife "in" his hand.
it's a knife tip stuck to the back of his hand.
NOTICE that you never see the back of his right hand the whole time until he turns hand so you can now see the "knife" in it.
next notice that the knife is "shorter" then the original one odd huh?? bad craftsmanship of the prop knife
and last notice that the REAL knife stops where his hand would hit this is why he spins the cups one more spot from where it stopped
this is how it is done in simple terms
