I think the reality is that the more people in general suffer the more they want to see others suffering more. This age we are in is remeniscent of the sarcastic seventies after the USA lost the vietnam war and the country was in an inflationary mess. People just want to rest assured that someone, somewhere is suffering more than they are and these videos provide comfort and relief.
