I hear you on the whole thing about debating friends/peers who are pretty much all democrat. Personally, I'm a moderate. But since the vast majority of the people here lean to the right or far right, I am often finding myself debating them. Then back home, I find myself debating friends or people I have just met at a party because I agree with them on some points but disagree on others. Especially when someone finds out I wear a uniform, they expect from me an explanation for an entire political party or institution. Best advice: Tell them they may be right/that they win. Its easier to let them figure certain things out on their own than trying to convince someone what they've been led to believe or "know" is B.S.
I got into a very awkward situation a few months back when a friend's 13 year old cousin was using points taken from "9/11 Loose Change" to support his argument. I had a few drinks in me, and long story short, apparently shutting down a little kid during a debate is a no-no..
