'99 MB c280 i got home from 7-11, and when i took my key out of the ignition, i felt it grate a little. so i put it back in, and the key would not turn. i looked on the internet, it said it was most likely the tumbler (i have 3 die cut keys, all with average wear. none have any success.) so, i have been quoted for everywhere from $600 at the dealership to $400 at the garages in the area, and $50 from the crackhead next door(he said he could fix it, but i would never be able to turn it back off ) so , i was wondering if the prices were fair, since they claim that it is 5 or 6 hours of labor. steering column removed? reseting security codes? i am mildly ignorant to the mysterious ways of mechanics. i can do light engine work (recently replaced ignition coils, plugs, wires, trying to replace upstream o2 sensor, but the whole exhaust has to come off to get to it). i am a fucking mess, and i honestly appreciate your advice. i will pay you in thumbs up. and virtual beers.
